Newborn Session

Hello and welcome. Nothing is more magical than welcoming a new baby into the family. The tiny delicate fingers and toes, the precious soft skin, the certainty that this is a love unlike any you have known. You are certain that your life will never be the same. These moments pass by so quickly. It is our privilege to preserve this special milestone for you and your family forever.

Everyone who has been a parent knows that those early days go by in the blink of an eye. The things you treasure so much - the smell of a baby's skin. The feel of his or her little body cuddled against yours - become distant but cherished memories as your children quickly change and grow. Let us be there at the beginning of your little ones journey to capture this time of beauty and innocence in professional photographs that you and your loved ones will treasure.

THE NEWBORN PORTRAIT PROCESS

We know that once your baby is born. You'll have a lot on your mind and selecting a photographer might not be the first on your list. That's why its best to book your baby photos session between two or four months before your due date. Once your little one makes his big entrance, let us know the news and we will coordinate with you to choose a day for your photo session. Newborn photographs should be taken before the baby is two weeks old and ideally within the first nine days. Babies younger than 10 days old are less fussy, sleep deeply and are not yet affected by infant acne - making it more likely that you'll get the results you want.

BEFORE THE SESSION

We know that it might be difficult to predict when your baby will want to eat and sleep during the first few days, but ideally, you want to keep your baby awake 2 hours prior to your session time and schedule feeding for just before you leave your home to come to my studio. Sleeping newborns produce the best photographs, so try to time your baby's naps accordingly. If you want to include any special props, be sure to pack those the night before. If breast feeding its best to stay away from spicy foods or caffeine for 24 hours prior. Also.

DURING THE SESSION

We understand that your baby's first photo shoot can be a stressful time for you. Baby may not be cooperating and you'll worry that the session will be a bust. Also watching someone else handle and pose your baby could bring out your mommy instincts. The first rule of newborn photography is to relax and the second is to have patience. If you are tense, your baby will sense that and your little one might have trouble going off into the deep sleep we like. So take a deep breath, think calming thoughts and take your baby's lead. I am highly experienced and i place your baby's safety above all else, so your little one is in good hands. I am happy to take the time we need for baby to be fed, changed, comforted and lulled to sleep so the artistic magic can begin. Because of this, we require that you allow up to three hours for your session.

AFTER THE SESSION

After your newborn session, we need time to sort through the images and to edit them. We will then set up a photo viewing at our studio on the Culmore road in Derry - Londonderry, normally one or two weeks after your photography session for a full viewing of your photographs to order some of our beautiful wall art and prints.  After the viewing appointment we will also host your images in a private online gallery for your family members to view and order any additional prints for up to 7 days.
